Plagiarism
Plagiarism is
presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without
their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full
acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in
manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this
definition. Plagiarism may be intentional or reckless, or unintentional.
Under the regulations for examinations, intentional or reckless
plagiarism is a disciplinary offence.
Plagiarism
means from two Latin words, meaning plagiarius kidnapper, and plagiare which
means desirable. According to the Random House Dictionary Compact Unabridged,
plagiarism is defined as "the close use or bond of the language and
thoughts of other authors and their representation as one's original
work."Plagiarism in words that are easily understood and thought by
others, and passes it as someone's original work. There are various types of
plagiarism, readings about them to discuss the types and ways that are done
Types of Plagiarism
1. Academic and journalistic plagiarism is the practice of old age. However, internet plagiarism is now rampant with the advent of the Internet, and plagiarism has taken on many new forms. Now it's only about cut, copy, and paste, or repeat a little.
2. Complete Plagiarism: Content that has been presented as itself, without any changes made to language, thought, flow, and even punctuation known as full plagiarism. Many academics believe that it is generally the work of people who are incompetent in certain subjects, or just lazy to try.
3. Partial plagiarism: When the content presented is a combination of two to three different sources, where the use of repeating and synonyms is rampant, it is known as partial plagiarism. Here, the author uses some originality, but inadequate knowledge of certain subjects is a common reason for the occurrence of partial plagiarism.
4. Minimalist plagiarism: Here, the writer of the plagiarist is someone else's concepts, ideas, thoughts, or opinions in their own words and in different schools. Although many do not consider this as plagiarism (maybe someone did it!), It is considered stealing someones study or thought. Minimalist plagiarism involves a lot of paraphrasing
5. Source of Quotation: When source information is complete with a quote provided, it does not amount to plagiarism. However, the source definition of complete citations varies considerably. Some authors cite the source name, but do not provide other accessible information. While some easily provide false references, some only combine their information with original writing. A ghost writer is a perfect example of a plagiarist. Here the author feels free to source information and reproduce it as their own.
6. Self-plagiarism: A form of plagiarism that might be most contested as "that" and "no". Using one's own work, fully or partially, or even the same mind and re-writing it, is known as self-plagiarism by many people. Publishing the same material through different media without reference is true is a very common habit among many writers. Content on many sites is a perfect example of self plagiaris.
In a book entitled An Introduction to Scientific Writing, Felicia Utorodewo classifies the following as an act of plagiarism.
Recognize other people's writing as their own writing,
Recognize other people's ideas as their own thoughts
Recognize the findings of others as their own
Recognizing group work as belonging or own results,
Presenting the same writing on different occasions without mentioning its origin
Summarize and paraphrase (indirect quoting) without mentioning the source, and
Summarize and paraphrase by mentioning the source, but the sequence of sentences and the choice of words is still too same as the source.
Conclusion
I think plagiarism is an act that is not good and not feasible to implement, because besides this is an action that recognizes the work of others, plagiarism makes us not develop because it makes us lazy to think more creatively and original plagiarism is very detrimental to the party who created it works and harms users.
